The Winterset Cemetery is located in the southeast part of the city. It can accommodate in-ground burial of vaulted caskets and sealed cremation urns. A columbarium is also available for cremated remains.
For more information, call the phone number listed to speak with the Winterset City Cemetery Sexton, Bob Eisbernner.
The original plot was purchased by early pioneers in 1850 for $20.00. Many sections have been added throughout the years with the current number of burials exceeding 9,200. Originally, it was known as the Rock City Cemetery based on Winterset’s nickname due to the amount of limestone here. The grounds contain an impressive WWI memorial. Veterans are honored with a marker at each grave and an Avenues of Flags is on display each Memorial Day weekend.
