Press Release “Stolen Vehicle Pursuit”

On February 13th at approximately 11:59 am the Winterset Police Department received a 911 call reporting an attempted vehicle theft from the parking lot of Casey’s General Store on John Wayne Drive in Winterset.  A witness to the theft gave a description of a suspect vehicle involved.  The suspect vehicle was located by a Winterset Police Officer and a traffic stop was attempted.  The suspect vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued.  The pursuit reached speeds of 110 mph and travelled through Madison, Dallas and Polk Counties.  Ultimately stop sticks were deployed and the vehicle was disabled.  The pursuit ended on I-35 just south of the Hwy 5 bypass.   The vehicle was found to be stolen from Des Moines.  The vehicle was occupied by the driver, 20 year old Neal Quinn Lynch of Des Moines, and 5 juveniles ranging in age from 12 to 16 years old.

Quinn is currently being held in the Madison County jail on the following charges:

Child Endangerment

Possession of stolen property

Driving while barred

And several traffic offenses.

His bond is $20,000

Winterset Police Department was assisted by several agencies including Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Earlham Police Department, Van Meter Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Desoto Police Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the West Des Moines Police Department.
