Tobacco-Free Park Policy

Health Statement

Tobacco is the number one preventable cause of death in the United States. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, even brief exposure to second hand smoke can be harmful.

Definitions

For this policy, tobacco use is defined as smoking, chewing, dipping, dissolvable, lighting or any other use of tobacco-like products. Examples include cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, snuff, pipes, and any other product or item containing or reasonably resembling tobacco or tobacco products.

Policy

Tobacco use is prohibited by park visitors and park employees on all park grounds and facilities managed by the City of Winterset Park and Recreation Department with the exception of the City Park Campground. This includes: City Park, Winterset Aquatic Center / Tennis Courts Area, Martin Marietta Softball and Soccer Complexes, Giffin Field, Memory Lane and Carver Park. This includes inside personal vehicles and City vehicles. This policy extends to any youth or adult activity and includes park shelter houses.

Enforcement

Appropriate signs shall be posted in the above specified areas. The community, including park visitors and park employees, will be notified about this policy. City officials, park and recreation employees, parents and coaches are asked to help in enforcing the compliance to this policy. Person violating this policy may be asked to refrain from using tobacco products. Persons choosing not to comply with Tobacco Free Park Policy may be asked to leave the facility for the remainder of the event.
