Baseball Clinic

Boys grades 3rd – 8th
Fee $15.00
Held in early March after school at the Hitting Facility / Elementary Gym
Includes an accuracy and speed contest on the last day.
Instruction provided by the varsity baseball coaching staff.
Registration ends Feb. 15.

Easter Egg Hunt in City Park

City Park North Shelter Saturday, April 20, 2019, 11:00 am.
Boys and girls up to 9 years old.
The Easter Bunny will be present. Sponsored by Madison County Realty.

A Walk in the Park

Enjoy the fresh air and natural beauty at City Park.
Every mile walked / run by a sedentary person gives him / her an extra 21 minutes of life.
For a longer distance and a little more rugged terrain hike to Clark Tower – 2 miles. Trail maps are available.

Celebrate Earth Day 2019

All ages, no fee
Sunday, April 28th
Meet at City Park south shelter between at 1:00 pm for an interpretative walk to Clark Tower and back.
Please join others to enjoy the community of the woodlands. Volunteers with the organization For Lands Sake will lead the walk and give a brief discussion on our forests.

Adult Softball: Two leagues offered
1) Adult Coed (5 men and 5 women). Fee $250. Tuesday and Thursday evenings, May 8- July 21. Must be at least 18 and out of high school.
2) Coed Church (at least 3 women). Fee $125. Monday evenings May 7-June 11. Team members must be church members. All games are played at MM Fields Softball Complex. Anyone interested in forming a new team should contact the WPRD. Registration ends April 20.

Adult Tennis
Adult men and women, Fee $10. Beginning in April a men’s and women’s Tennis Drop-in League is planned. Courts will be reserved for a couple hours one day per week for each league. Also, with enough interest a “tennis ladder” league for singles or doubles could be scheduled. To register or to provide feedback contact WPRD at 462-3258 or email jpletchette@cwmu.net.

Intro to Pickleball

All ages, no fee
Learn rules, techniques and how to play the game or pickleball.
Pickleball is a game for all ages.
Join us on Saturday, April 27th 10:00 am at the City Tennis Courts for a fun and instructional session then stay and play a game or two.
A few paddles and balls will be provided. Registration is required and ends April 19.

Madison County Open Horseshoes

Fee $10.00
Register and warm up 8:30 – 9:30 am.
Pitching begins at 10:00 am.
Madison County Fairgrounds.

Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championships

Friday, May 24 at the high school track.
Held in conjuction with the Winterset Middle School field day.
Specific information and registration forms will be handed out at school.
Top finishers of the meet advance to the State meet held June 22 in Marshalltown.
Rain make up is Tuesday, May 28.  No-fee.

John Wayne 5K Run/Walk

Introduction to Bocce Ball

Have you heard of Bocce Ball? Did you know we have Bocce Ball Courts in our City Park? Join us and learn about this fun game. Learn the rules and strategies of playing Bocce Ball. Mayor Olson will provide instruction. Equipment provided.

Summer 2019

Mayor’s Bike Ride

Excellent for all age groups children to seniors.
Saturday, June 1st
No Fee
Check in at 8:00 am parking lot of the Winterset Aquatic Center.
This leisurely ride will be to City Park and back.
Purpose: to bring awareness for the need of a biking/jogging/walking trail.
Assisting with the ride will be the Winterset Police Department, Winterset Optimist Club and the WPRD.
Kids and Seniors (65+) wearing a helmet receive a certificate for a free ice cream cone.

2019 “First Friday” Concert Series at City Park

Concert series is held at the North Shelter area on three Friday evenings, June 7, July 5, Aug. 2
Beginning at 6:00 pm – Food & favorite beverage served.
7:00 – 10:00 pm – Live Music
There is no admission charge for the concert series.
No carry-in beverages or food allowed.

B.R.A.T. – Bike Ride Around Town

For all ages on Friday evenings June 7, July 5 and August 2.
Join us for a bike ride before the Concert Series at City Park.
Riders will begin leaving City Park at 5:00 and ride the SHARROWS around Winterset.
(Maps of the shared road way route will be provided).
Route is 7 miles and you are welcome to ride it as many times as you would like.
After your ride head to the North Shelter for food and live music.

Youth T-Ball

Youth develop beginning fundamentals of baseball /softball.
Held at MM Fields – Softball Complex with two evening games held at Giffin Fields.

Junior Police and Fire Academies

The Winterset Junior Police and Fire Academy is an opportunity for kids to learn about police and fire training and related topics and is presented by officers of the Winterset Police Depart and Winterset Fire Department. Cadets will experience activities including: physical agility training, fingerprinting, evidence collection, a K-9 demonstration, fire safety, fire fighting techniques and equipment and other activities. Cadets will receive a Winterset Junior Police Academy t-shirt.
Class size: 16.
Registration ends July 19.

Junior High Introduction to Horseshoes

This program is a part of the 7th & 8th grade Physical Education curriculum. During P.E. classes in September, students learn about the game of horseshoes and have an opportunity to pitch several shoes.  Instructions, horseshoes and court preparations are provided by the WPRD.

*Drivers follow all traffic signs, drive slowly, look out for  ghouls!

Walking
For all ages!! Don’t let the weather stop you from walking. Indoor walking is available at Hy-Vee during their business hours as well as at the Junior High Gym from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.

Fathers and Daughters, grandfathers and granddaughters, uncles and nieces are all invited to for an evening of music, dancing and fun.
A local photographer will be on hand to take your picture at an additional charge.

Mother/Son Nerf War

Bring your own nerf gun (bullet style – no ballistic rapid fire guns) bullets provided.
Protective goggles are required.
