The WINTERSET DOG PARK- opened in 2019 after several years of discussions, planning and fundraising. The ‘Friends of the Winterset Dog Park’ Committee was instrumental in making the dog park a reality. This hard-working and dedicated group of dog lovers worked very closely with the City of Winterset Parks and Recreation Department on promotion, fundraising and establishing park operation procedures. The City will provide the proper maintenance and with continued community support we plan to keep making improvements to the park.
The facilities include a 4-acre large dog area, one-half acre small dog area, both completely fenced and several nice amenities including drinking fountains, benches and play equipment, and shade structure. Off-leash dog parks offer exercise and socialization for friendly pets, and fun way for owners to meet other animal lovers.
An annual permit is required to use the dog park. The dog park permit is included for City of Winterset residents who have a current dog license tag on pet. Non-residents shall purchase a dog park pass for minimal fee of $5 weekly or $10 annual. Dog Park passes are available at the WPRD Office in City Hall. Dogs must be current on rabies vaccination, be over 4 months of age and in good health. Dog handlers must be 18 years old with 1 or 2 dogs only. Children under 9 years of age may not enter fenced in area for safety reasons. These and more rules are posted at the dog park.
Dog Park Ambassador Program
The Winterset Park and Recreation Department is seeking Ambassadors for the Winterset Dog Park. As an ambassador your responsibilities would include facilitating a fun and enjoyable environment for park users and their pets, ensuring all patrons have their pets registered, and informing users of the park’s rules. For volunteering 20 hours per year, ambassadors will receive a free Dog Park Pass the next calendar year.
